Post-Cup NHL Mock Draft

Note: For more on the draft, check out or draft podcast: Drinking and Mocking.

It’s officially time to shift focus from the Stanley Cup to the NHL Draft! Congrats to the Capitals and Alexander Ovechkin for finally putting it all together and winning the Cup. Admittedly, I’m not an ‘expert’ on nearly as many hockey prospects as I claim to be with the NFL, but I do read and follow a ton of draft writers and scouts. This is all for fun and to waste a little time reading at work anyways though right? That said, I’m going to list a couple trades that only affect the first round and follow that up with the mock itself!

In an effort to acquire more picks for their rebuild, the Montreal Canadiens trade pick 3 OVR to the Arizona Coyotes for pick 5 OVR (and multiple 2nd round picks).

New York Rangers swap picks 9 OVR and 28 OVR with the Detroit Red Wings for pick 6 OVR.

Colorado Avalanche trade their 1st pick (16 OVR) (and a prospect) for Jeff Skinner.

Ottawa Senators trade Mike Hoffman to the Philadelphia Flyers for pick 19 OVR (and pieces/prospects).

Buffalo Sabres trade Ryan O’Reilly to the St. Louis Blues (after missing out on the Tavares sweepstakes) for their 1st pick (29 OVR) (and prospects).
